In time the strong and stately turrets fall,
In time the rose and silver lilies die,...
Thus all, sweet Fair, in time must have an end,
Except thy beauty, virtues, and thy friend.

Giles Fletcher, c.1610

Time flows like a mighty river.  No sooner is a thing brought in sight than it is swept away.  Life is like a shadow that passes leaving no mark.  Our lives are a series of precious moments and the moments go so fast.  You try to cling, but like sand it runs through  your fingers.  You remember that beautiful time, but memory fades.  Time that was so long grows all too short.

"Part of the portrait painter’s art is to produce a sort of synthesis, something more various, richer, than even an astute photographer can catch by snapping a shutter in a camera. The portrait painter must be skilled in human observation, he must actually be moved by his subject as well as by his profession."   Parker Tyler, 1972

"Beauty is something wonderful and strange that the artist fashions out of the chaos of the world in the torment of his soul."  W. Somerset Maugham

This snapshoot
could become an oil portrait

"Why is it that no photograph of a person has the depth a painted portrait can have? The two embody different quantities of time. A photograph is a “snapshot,” whether or not it was posed; it shows one particular moment of time and what the person looked like right then, what his surface showed."   Robert Nozick, 1989

"Beauty is a form of genius -- is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation. It is of the great facts in the world like sunlight, or springtime, or the reflection in dark water of that silver shell we call the moon."
~ Oscar Wilde

Hans, detail
15" x 30"
By Robert Bissett

This is Hans who lives in Germany.  He had a long career as a professional musician.  He speaks not a word of English, but he can walk into a restaurant and make a dozen friends before he leaves.  He's a loveable guy, very enthusiastic.  I think I've captured some of his spirit in this portrait.

My internet pricing is affordable for just about anyone.

You'll receive high resolution digital photos
of the painting.  You'll be able to examine
every square inch before you spend a dime.

Then, hang it on the wall
Show your friends and family.
You must be thrilled with it .
If not, send it back
and I'll correct it or give you a full refund.

"Taking Great Photos with any Camera"

This will help you meet the requirements easily

Portraits that must have highly detailed backgrounds or other features, such as scenery, ornate wedding dresses, and military uniforms may incur additional cost.

This will be discussed and agreed on prior to any cost being added.

Portraits normally do include simple, straight-forward modifications to the original photo, such as painting a shaded or impressionistic background, altering the color of a shirt or dress, or repositioning children for better composition. Painting out such minor annoyances such as blemishes, or "fly-away" hair is also included.

A Word to the Wise

If you have found a site offering portraits at prices significantly below my prices you can be pretty sure they will be sending your picture to a foreign country.  For example, painting sweat shops in China with a couple dozen painters packed into a room who work all day for a quarter an hour.  Sent to me from China here is a price list I copied from a recent email:

20 x 24 inches on canvas $4.95 for each
24 x 36 inches on canvas $7.95 for each
30 x 40 inches on canvas $10.95 for each
36 x 48 inches on canvas $14.95 for each

Quote from typical cut-rate portrait site:

"We are an American owned company, but using our unique studio network, we use artists from around the world.  With use of the internet, we can easily deliver to your door portraits and paintings from highly talented artists at great prices."

Nowhere can you find the names of these artists or what country they are in.  In fact, you have to dig just to find the above statement.  I'm not saying no one should use such companies, but remember you really do get what you pay for.

Recent satisfied customer:  "I am amazed at how deeply your painting moved me!
... ability to capture the essence... has made it a timeless treasure – now it is not only with me in my memories, it is also freshly accessible every time I look at my wall!  You paint with such skill and emotion, ...I feel like I am in the halls of a great museum..."  Lois E.

I have just seen ... your painting of New Orleans.  It evokes a certain mood with the softness and yet sensuality of the colors, much like New Orleans I would think.   Jan

Wow what a great painting. awesome !!!!!   jess

Very good!! I love that old tree.  Would like to see more of your work.

What a great picture of the Garden Center.  I think the famous writer Anne Rice lives there. New Orleans is one of our favorite places to visit and we've been there often. Love that French Quarter!  Thanks so much for sharing a very well done painting of a home in one of the most unique cities in America.

I love the use of pink reflective light, I'd like to know if that's a reflection from a sunset or your own wonderful creation of color in the reflected light.  I love it it's so vibrant.  Thanks for sharing it with us.  Betty

I love the warmth of the colors you used. I think paintings of buildings can be so cold but this is very different. I also think that the angle you painted from makes this out of the ordinary.
Well painted!    Karin

"I've only seen a few of your paintings so far but I'm impressed with the strong compositions and dramatic lines in your work. I think these are big strengths and it's great that you have them."

"Bob, this is so nice I went directly to your website link to see more."

"My first impression of it was that it had a beautiful, peaceful and luminescent quality and color."

"The shadows are well designed and not too dark. The skin-tone does not bother me and it rather reminds me of the candlelit luminescence of some of Georges de la Tours' work."

"I think it's the modern day Mona Lisa."

"As a master painter in acrylics, Robert Bissett has a simple philosophy..."

"Robert Bissett has the technical skill to render a highly realistic image of his subject."
