My reply:

Wonderful news, thanks so much!
Winter Sky was painted from imagination and memory. In other words, I made it up. Sometimes I paint on location, en plein air, sometimes I refer to photographs. Sometimes I just move paint around until something unexpected begins to take shape. I think of this as a way to access the subconscious. Working without reference has the effect of simplifying the composition. It also allows all your focus to be on the painting rather than constantly switching back and forth between painting and reference. I cover this method in detail in several section of my book, link below.

The book is so beautifully done; full of encouragement, interesting facts and quotes as well as enough teaching material to keep me busy for quite sometime to come. I love the workbook format, all the suggestions from easy to challenging, as well as the informative banter you keep consistently throughout each page. I've gotten painting books in the past that I've ended up skipping through a great deal of them because a lot of what the author put in wasn't the art I felt I wanted to do...not the case in your book, I want to do it all!
