Redcoat Check my eBay Auctions Once again Interactive acrylics. Native American chief...inspired by one of those historical black and whites. In this case "inspired by" means I tried to paint this with an old bristle round that was too big for the job. That forces you to be loose and forego detail. Not intended to be a portrait. Dreams of Flight Check my eBay Auctions Once again Interactive acrylics. We went up for a few runs this morning...at the ski area. Just too beautiful to stay in the house and work. I had an idea for a painting that might show how skiing is the closest thing to flying. Much closer than in an airplane, helicopter or glider. I've tried those. Maybe a hang glider? This wasn't the vision, but it is about the joy of flying...or skiing. You may have noticed the use of line in this picture. That's something the impressionist did, some of them anyway. It's a way to bring structure to a painting when you wish you had more value contrast, but that would ruin the feeling tone. Now everything is still a bit murky and dreamy. The bird is defined and separated from the background by the dark lines. POSTED BY ROBERT

Bowl of Apples Check my eBay Auctions Paint is so twentieth century. I carefully arranged this still life paying attention to the lighting, the basic shapes, the angles, the color, etc., photographed it and manipulated the image until it seemed "right". Some of the color areas had to be changed by hand to make it work. POSTED BY ROBERT

Self-Portrait $1000
Detail Continued from the entry just below. This is done with a very limited palette: Carbon black, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna and White. Looking at Rembrandt's self-portrait in a magazine I couldn't see any other colors. Seemed to work well enought...wouldn't have guessed in before starting. I can explain the hat. It's the closest I have to what Remmy is wearing. Started this afternoon by going over the background with lots of Bt. Umber which had the effect of turning the black of the jacket bluish. Added Bt. Sienna and white for the lighter areas around the head. Face and hands are the same three colors. The hat is Bt. Umber and white. POSTED BY ROBERT

Self-Portrait
Detail Started with gessoed
watercolor paper with a layer of red-orange. On the dry sheet I sketched in the
face and hand areas, then began scrubbing on Carbon Black. White was added to
make various grays for the flesh spots. I'm happy with it so far. Beginning to
see a likeness, features are only suggested, brush strokes are loose.

"Thought I'd tell you in an email how much I like your work. Great themes and interesting depictions. :) I like the diversity. Your UTube was great too. I think music and art go well together, always appreciate walking into a gallery that knows how to use music to enhance the atmosphere." Rain "Wow, nice piece of work, my style of painting."
