Wild Roses
Tired of fighting the acrylics...they
dry almost instantly on the palette in this heat!!! Our backyard rose
bush is awesome this year.
Switching to oils for now. This one is
9 x 12 on hardboard. The mountain is two colors, a gray green and a
slightly bluer and lighter color. Then went back and wiped out the
lighter spots with the brush. Ultramarine blue, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium
Red and white. Have to admit oils are very nice to work with...like
butter, thick with a lot of substance. Lots of time to blend and
wipe out. Acrylics have a plastic feel.
Tulips Having dissed acrylics you can do some nice things with them. On a cooler day a couple weeks ago I started with a magenta toned canvas for spring beauties. See more new paintnigs.

Loi at the lake on the second day after being up all night taking Emily to the airport on her way to China for six months of study!
Gregg Caudell at work, Cedar Street Bridge.
Boats Some people managed to do four paintings a day. I've been struggling with allergies the past couple months which leaves you with very little energy and hard to focus. I was lucky to do three total!

Birches at Twilight All the artist had a wonderful time. It's rare when we can gather in large numbers. Art is normally a solitary activity. The public was invited to watch the artist in action. Far as I know no one actually did that. Maybe next year the word will get out and the weather will cooperate.
