I'm currently working steadily on a number of new pieces
for this show.
Sneak Preview - some just started, others nearly
finished...
New Gallery
A terrific gallery in Couer d'Alene, Idaho is
representing me! Painter's Chair Fine Art Gallery Steve and Cathy Shortridge
223 Sherman Ave. 208 667 3606 - 888 317 6309 New Paintings
Chelsea Painted with only Torrit Gray from Gamblin Oil Paint company. Every year they clean the air filters in their factory and make a paint from it. Then they sponsor a contest. You can use Torrit and any black and white. This is done with oil rub-out technique so the only white is where the gesso shows through. Really missed the colors.
Fanta Vendors A scene from our visit to Tarahumara country in Mexico years ago. These boys were selling drinks to the many tourists who travel by rail to the little town of Creel to watch the Tarahumara processions at Easter. I often do multiples of an image, as many as six. This one is the second and can be seen at Painter's Chair.
Morning Race The finished mural.
Sandpoint Festival, Art Auction & Wine
Tasting For the second year Diana Botkin and I did a painting demonstration in association with Timber Stand Gallery's art auction. Always a lot of fun to see old friends and meet new ones. This year Loi posed for us. Also did a little wine tasting and afterwards the all Mozart concert by the Spokane Orchestra.
Straw Hat A quick sketch, not really a portrait, hoping to capture the colors and the atmosphere of the afternoon. Two twenty minute sessions. Used only one brush, a No. 10 or 12 bristle bright, nylon, and a little solvent, but no medium. ...and finally...
Loi and I took a workshop at the Mendocino Art Center with Robert Burridge: July 17 - 21, 2006, LOOSEN UP WITH AQUAMEDIA. It was great fun and we learned a lot. Robert is an excellent workshop leader. He wants you to paint, not like he does, but how you've always wanted to paint...loose! I've already incorporated many of his ideas into my own work. Here are some of the exercises we did in class...not meant to be finished paintings, but learning experiences. These are more or less in order as we did them over the five days. All were done without reference material of any kind...just keep painting till it starts to look like something! This allows you to really focus on the work in front of you. Brushes, paper towels and fingers. Highly recommend.
Started off with six 10x10" abstracts in black and white.
Ball lighting study.
Pear study with two colors.
Florals with full color.
Let the paint run to make the tree trunks.
Not part of the workshop...a palette knife painting of rocks in the ocean as seen from our room at Bettilou's Inn.
Two of four 10x10" sunset pictures.
I worked on this one a little at home and it is now in Painter's Chair Gallery looking like this...
Watching Raven
P.S. And staying at Bettilou's Inn overlooking the ocean was very enjoyable. The view is spectacular and Bettilou is an excellent hostess. Highly recommend.
Till next month... Bob
